Behold the Lusty Lady. She was my summer drink of choice, and the featured cocktail at my girls’ night one July evening. She also made an appearance at every barbecue we had this summer. And she was my companion when my boys were waving lit sparklers too close to my hair. As the worst days of winter approach (I’m looking at you, all of January and February) I’ll continue to drink this Lusty Lady to transport me back to sweet, summer memories. That’s my winter survival plan. That, and a good book.
I got this recipe from the back of a Scrappy’s Bitters bottle. It’s a gin drink with lime juice, a splash of cranberry, simple syrup, Scrappy’s Lavender Bitters, and an egg white. That last ingredient has no effect on taste, but is only used for texture. When shaken properly, an egg white will give a cocktail a creamy smooth feel, and a white cap on top.
Oh, and you can buy simple syrup at most liquor stores, and some supermarkets, but you can also make your own! Just boil equal parts sugar and water until the sugar dissolves. Set aside to cool, and then jar it. Refrigerate until ready to use.
